The Vision for an
Interactive Research and Educational Facility
in Scott County, Kansas
Quote inspired from the movie, Field of Dreams
Conferences, workshops, seminars or meetings could be held in this facility.
Large space suitable for trade shows, trade delegations and industry events.
Community gatherings and public events welcome!
Imagine a state of the art education, research and workforce training center where one could obtain CDL (Commercial Driver's License) training, agricultural spraying licensing and recertification, agronomic training and crop production certification. Other targeted workforce skills including precision agriculture technology, irrigation system management and equipment operation.
Creation of a agricultural regional destination point would be a perfect fit among Scott County's fascinating tourism attractions including Scott State Park, El Quartelejo, Museums, Jerry Thomas Art Gallery, even an active residential paleontologist.
The proposed site includes
* 8 quarters of irrigated cropland
* A working feed yard
* Excellent access to town and railroad transportation
This strategic location will maximize utilization of existing fairgrounds infrastructure, create synergies between the two sites, and establish a prominent destination.

The Western Field of Dreams is a proposed interactive research and educational facility dedicated to grain, beef and food production industries in West Central Kansas and Eastern Colorado.
The facility will highlight the vital role of water in agriculture, emphasize sustainable water management practices and promote the conservation and efficient utilization of the Ogallala Aquifer.
Western Field of Dreams aims to become a world-class destination for agricultural research, education, workforce training and tourism, delivering significant economic benefits to Scott City and surrounding communities.
The vision for the Western Field of Dreams emerged from group discussions focused on developing practical solutions for irrigation conservation and sustanable agricultural production. Recognizing the immense value suce a facility could provide to producers, the idea of a permanent, on-site research center was conceived.
Inspired by the iconic line from the movie Field of Dreams - "If you build it, he will come." - the project adopted the name Western Field of Dreams. This name reflects the lifelong dream of farmers and the belief that creating this facility will attract researchers, educators, industry leaders, students and visitors to address the real challenges facing agriculture today.
West Central Kansas and Eastern Colorado form a cornerstone of food production in America's heartland. every stage of grain, beef and food production in this region depends entirely on water, making the long-term sustainability of the Ogallala Aquifer essential not only for local communities but for global food security.
Effective water conservation and improved utilization practices are critical. This requires ongoing research into new irrigation technologies, crop genetics and management strategies. The most effective research must occur where challenges are greatest - directly on the fields of Western Kansas.

Water Conservation techniques.
Irrigation efficiency and new technologies.

Crop and livestock genetics.

Sustainable practices for grain and beef productions.
